Sighting Description: Pair of Black Scoters, pair of White-winged Scoters, large number of
Surf Scoters, along with a number of Barrows Goldeneyes

Sighting Description: Single adult turkey vulture soaring just over the tree tops. Cruised
southwest out of soght before I could get a photo.
Location: Driveway on west side of the highway with the white painted rock at the end just
south of intersection of Ledgewood Beach and the highway.
Confirmation: Wings held in diherdral while soaring. Large raptor with bald red head.
Looked all dark when first seen and then as it turned and was well lit I could clearly see
the underside of the primaries and secondaries were gray with test of wong dark. Live in
southern oregon where TUVI are very common in the summer and I am very familiar with the
species. Gray in wings was the entire trailing edge of wing, tail extending well beyond
legs and red head all eliminate possibility of it being an even rarer black vulture. There
have been some sporadic winter sightings of TUVI in the PNW over the last couple winters
so this is not extremely unexpected.

Sighting Description: The last time I saw a White-throated Sparrow on Whidbey was at my
place in Clinton Jan 2, 2018 amongst a mixed flock of White-crowned, Golden-crowned and
House Sparrows. Today I found one at a friend's house in Freeland amongst Juncos - no
other sparrows to be found. It was a great "last bird" of 2022. The list starts again
tomorrow!

Sighting Description: At least 1 Snow Bunting remains on Keystone Spit.
2 Short-eared Owls were flying along Crockett's Lake.

Sighting Description: An immature Glaucous Gull was with an assortment of hybrids,
California, and Short-billed Gulls at Grasser's Lagoon. This large concentration of
hundreds of gulls appear to be feeding on Pacific sand lance along with cormorants, harbor
seals, and sea lions. The Glaucous Gull is almost pure white with dark on the bill tip, a
spectacular bird!
Location: Grasser's Lagoon, Penn Cove. I saw it both from Madrona and the pullout from Hwy
20.

Sighting Description: At least one PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER in a tightly packed flock of 100+
resting BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.
Location: Crockett Lake, west end. Look roughly northeast to a narrow, low island about
200 yards offshore.
Confirmation: Obvious golden speckling really stood out in the setting sun and smaller
than surrounding plovers.

probably headed to Crockett's Lake.
