Sighting Description: Photos of the Trumpeter swan pair on Land Trust wetland on Cultus Bay Road; Photos by David Welton, taken with permission, on private property. Please protect these wild birds from human disturbance: observe the birds on the wetland from the shoulder of Cultus Bay Road: the wetland owned by the Land Trust is closed to access to preserve/protect the wildlife on site. The Red Door Farm, on the south side of the wetland, is private property and is not open to public access in order to protect the wildlife from disruption.

Sighting Description: Second swan has joined the lone swan seen for the past 2 years at the Whidbey Camano Land Trust wetland at Cultus Bay Rd and French Rd. This was reported earlier today by Dyanne Sheldon. I am submitting a photo.

Sighting Description: There is a SECOND Trumpeter swan now on the wetland on Cultus Bay Rd at French Road!! The second bird came in overnight (there was only 1 bird yesterday). The 2 birds are clearly "paired" in that they are following each other in very close proximity and they are out and preening on the same log at the same time. If that's not "love", then what is? (allow me a little anthropomorphism please!). Now the question remains: will they maintain a territory here or move on to wider horizons.

Sighting Description: While birding toward the west end of Wanamaker Road, Coupeville, we saw more than 20 Western Meadowlarks in a field on the north side. The meadowlarks were invisible when on the ground in the stubble, only seen when in the air.
Looking south from Wanamaker, we estimated 100 Black-bellied Plovers and over 200 Dunlin feeding toward the south side of a field south of Wanamaker. BBPL heads stuck up above the grass. Hundreds of Dunlin and starlings were mostly obscured, just seen when they flushed briefly into the air.
Apparently there is better foraging habitat for these shorebirds in the fields on the north side of Crockett Lake than in the flooded mudflats of the lake itself.

Sighting Description: At dusk last evening there was a large movement of waterfowl to Crockett's Lake and the fields beyond. I would put a rough estimate of 5,000- 6,000 ducks and geese. There were skeins after skeins moving in the failing light. We could hear more coming in after it was too dark to see. Impressive for Whidbey!

Sighting Description: A Rough-legged Hawk was perched on the dike platform at Dugualla Bay Lake.
The Great Egret remains and there were 80+ swans between the lake and bay. Also present were several Canvasbacks and the usual assortment of waterfowl and shorebirds
